Building The IBS Community.


The IBS Network was established in 1991 by Sue Backhouse and Christine Dancey, both of whom suffered with IBS, as a network of groups to facilitate understanding and self management of IBS. It was always seen as 'for the patients by the patients'.

We want to encourage more of you to get involved in making The IBS Network what you want it to be. There are many ways you can do this.

Volunteer to help. Apply to become a trustee, a member of the executive board or a volunteer.

Come and see us at on our stand at The Allergy & Free From Show taking place in Liverpool on October 27th and 28th. We will be conducting FREE 1-2-1 consultations which can be booked on the day. You can also hear Dr Nick Read and dietitian Anne Holdaway in the Show theatre talking on Food and Mood and Diet and IBS.

Meet Amelia Rippon, who works part time in a local pharmacy and is developing our social networking and links with the local community, and Rachel McCrae who is helping to forge new relationships with our commercial supporters. Both Amelia and Rachel are students in Sheffield and have volunteered their time to support the IBS Network.

'Wow! What a month! 65 medals for team GB, including Gold for Sheffield's very own Jess Ennis. We enjoyed every moment! But hang on to those flags and keep the face paint handy. The Paralympics start at the end of the month.

Always a good reason to share the excitement by throwing a dinner party for your friends. Check out our top tips for a perfect evening.

1. Plan your menu well in advance, and do as much prep as possible before your guests arrive, and remember, delicious meals are all in the timing.
2. Keep it simple.
3. Know your guests dietary requirements. Free from ingredients and recipes are widely available and easy to use.
4. Remember food and mood. If you are relaxed, your gut will be too.
5. Everything in moderation. Only have sufficient wine to enjoy the food and conversation.

Here are some simple dishes, that even my most sensitive guests have enjoyed.
