Does IBS run in the family?

IBS does tend to. You have more chance of having IBS if a parent or a sibling has it. Twins, especially identical twins have a particularly strong chance of both having IBS. But that does not necessarily mean there is a genetic inheritance. Family members live in the same environment, tend to eat the same food, even share the same colonic bacteria.
